Bubblegum Sound - Hongdae Station (홍대입구역, line 2)

Bubblegum Sound is popular among expat bands. It's run by a Korean guy named Hyun-ho, who speaks English well and, from what I hear, is quite passionate about what he does.

For rehearsal, you can choose from Room A, which is equipped with:
- Reverse 9 T903 drums
- guitar amps: MG100, Marshall, Valvestate VS65r

or Room C, which has:
- Ashdown MAG300 bass amp
- Korg TR76 keyboard

Also, Bubblegum isn't just a practice space. They also have a recording studio and provide instrument rental.

Check out their website at http://www.bbgsound.com.

You can contact them at 02-322-5491 or email them at bbgsound@gmail.com.

It's located in the basement of the Samweon Building (삼원빌딩):

Orange Studio (오렌지 합주실) - Hongdae Station (홍대입구역, line 2)

Last night I was walking around Hongdae (which is my new neighborhood, HOORAY!) in that area behind Hongdae Station exit 4, and I saw the sign for Orange Studio (오렌지 합주실). Two of the guys who work there had just locked up and happened to be coming out as I was staring at the sign, and as I started to ask them questions about the place, they kindly offered to open the door back up and show it to my friend and me. The place was nice; it was up there with Brown Sound. There 6 rooms, ranging from small to large, and they range from 10,000 to 16,000 won/hr. For any of you who need a keyboard to practice on, one of the rooms has a Kurzweil SP2X, which is a great 88 key, fully-weighted beauty with great sounds; it's the same one I play on.

You can choose from the S Room, of which there are 3, for 16,000 won/hr:

The A Room, which is 14,000 won/hr:

The B Room, which is 12,000 won/hr:

Or the C Room, which is 10,000 won/hr:

You can call them at 02-338-2320, 010-3764-2320, or find them on cyworld at http://club.cyworld.com/orange-studio

Red House Studio - Hongdae/Hapjeong Stations (홍대입구역, line 2/합정역, lines 2 and 6)

Red House is located in Hongdae between Hongdae and Hapjeong Stations. NOTE: It is only a recording studio; it does not have practice spaces. But I added this on here because I'm sure at some point you might be looking for a place to record your songs if you don't feel like doing it on your computer. Their website is really comprehensive, though, so it seems like they know what they're doing. If you're looking for a place to record your songs, it says on their site that if you're crunched for time, they'll work 24 hours straight to get it done for you. At the website you can also listen to songs they've recorded there. This place even gives one-on-one audio engineering lessons for $200/month.

You can call them at 02-3142-6166 or 010-3221-6602 and email them at hgy7715@yahoo.co.kr or hgy7715@hotmail.com. Their website is:

They're located on floor B1 of the Hyoyoung building:

Brown Sound (브라운사운드) - Sangsu/Hongdae Stations (상수역, line 6/홍대입구역, line 2)

Brown Sound (브라운사운드) is a practice space that's located between Sangsu Station and Hongdae Station in Hongdae. It's incredibly clean and has some of the best equipment you'll find at a practice space in Seoul. There are 4 rooms you can choose from: rooms H, O, Z, and N. The bigger rooms, H and O, cost 18,000 won per hour, and the smaller rooms, Z and N, cost 16,000 won per hour.

Here's a breakdown of their equipment:

Guitar amp: Marshall JCM 2000 + Marshall 1960v cabinet
Bass amp: Ashdown EVO II 500 + Ashdown 810 cabinet
Drums: Pacific drums by DW FX series + UFIP cymbal
PA: Soundcraft GIGRAC 600 mixer + Peavey PV115 speakers
Keyboards: Kurzweil PC1X + Korg TR
Mic: Shure SM58s Microphone
Optional guitar amps: Fender Twin Reverb + Marshall Bluesbreaker + 89 Soldano SLO-100 amp

You can also store your instruments here if you need to, if, say, you have a huge 25-kg keyboard that you don't want to be lugging around town with you all the time, like me. And if you practice quite often, they'll work out a deal with you where you can decide on a price per month.

Here's what Room H (one of the bigger rooms) looks like:
