Where you can find comprehensive practice space listings

Hi, everyone! Now that I live in NYC and see that people are still using this site, I'd like to share a little secret with you: http://www.mule.co.kr/. This site has quite a comprehensive list of practice spaces in Korea (not just Seoul).

If you need help navigating the page:

Towards the top of the page, you'll see the navy bar that spans the width of the page. On the second row, you'll see where it says "정보," which means "information" in Korean. Click on the second group of words next to that that says "합주(연습)실정보," which means "practice space information."

In the gray bar almost halfway down the page, you'll see two drop-down menus. Choose "서울" for "Seoul" or whichever city/province you live in. The drop-down menu to the right of that will have the different 구s ("districts") to choose from.

Or... I prefer to scroll down to the bottom of the page where you'll see more drop-down menus. Those let you narrow it down to the 동s (neighborhoods).

All the listings you see that populate the first half of the page in bold are sponsored listings and don't necessarily reflect your search.

Time Sound - Yangjae Station (양재역, line 3/Shinbundang line)

Time Sound is composed of 3 different studios (Time Sound 1, Time Sound 2 and Time Sound 3, or 타임 1, 타임2 and 타임 3 in Korean) that are located out of exit 5 of Yangjae Station, (양재역, line 3).

At Time Sound 1, you can choose from Rooms A, B and R.

Room A has:

Yaerang Practice Space (예랑 연습실) - Hyochang Park Station (효창공원앞역, line 6)

A reader had asked me to find "a piano practice room somewhere near Itaewon."

Yaerang is a quick 4-5 block walk from Hyochang Park Station (효창공원앞역), exit 2. As you're walking up the street, you'll see a building on your right-hand side with a 7-Eleven on the 1st floor. Yaerang is on the 3rd floor of that building.

Selah Studio - Konkuk Univ. Station (건대역, lines 2 and 7)

Selah Studio (셀라 스튜디오) is located out of Konkuk Univ. Station (건대역, line 2) exit 5.

Here's how to get there:

24-Hour Practice Space for up to 6 People in Songdo, Incheon - Yeonsu Station (연수역, Suin Line)

Someone posted that they're living in Songdo, Incheon, and that it's a bit of a ghost town out there. On mule.co.kr, all I found in Songdo was a post for a music academy that didn't look like they rented their rooms by the day, so I found the nearest rehearsal space that had a bit of flavor and didn't seem so sterile. It looks to be about a 5-10 minute walk from Yeonsu Station (연수역, Suin Line).

The post for this space can be found here: http://www.mule.co.kr/information/4/bbscontent.aspx?idx=2419623&page=1&sort=23&searchword=&searchregion=1. They don't mention a name for the practice space, but they do say that the rehearsal room and hang-out area can fit up to 6 people. It's available 24 hours a day, and it only mentions the monthly price of 10만원 (10,000 won or about $100).

From the photos, I can't tell much about the equipment except that the bass drum is a Ludwig:

Radio Gaga Studio (라디오 가가) - Konkuk Univ. Station (건대입구역, lines 2 and 7)

(Someone had asked to find a practice space near Cheongdam Station, but so far, this is the closest one I could find.)

Radio Gaga is a quick walk from Konkuk Univ. Station (건대입구역), exit 6.

You can choose from the A Room, B Room, or 3 Small Rooms.

The A Room costs 18,000 won/hour:

The Small Rooms are for private instrument practice, usually for acoustic instruments. But if you need an amp or wanted them to move one of the keyboards in there, etc, I'm sure they could set that up for you.

Private practice rooms - Mia Station (미아역, line 4)

This practice space is located about a 3-minute walk from Mia Station (미아역, line 4) or a 2-minute walk from the bus station. It's 24 hours and equipped with heating and AC. There are several private rooms in which you're allowed to practice any instrument except for the drums.



If you're interested in monthly rates, it ranges from 240,000-260,000원, and if you agree to a 6-month contract, they'll knock off 200,000원.

Drum practice space - Ssangmun Station (쌍문역, line 4)

This drum practice space, whose name is not mentioned in their internet post, is located near Ssangmun Station (쌍문역, line 4) exit 2. It's also a one-minute walk from the bus station.

On the 1st floor of the building, you'll see a supermarket, and there's a traditional market (or "재래시장" in Korean) nearby. There are also many restaurants in the neighborhood. It's open from 9 am-10 pm, and if you're interested in paying by the month, it's 180,000원/month. No hourly rate is mentioned in their post, but you can have a friend call and ask, or use the free BBB translation service listed at the top left-hand side of this site.

There are two drum booths, both of which are equipped with the Sonor 3007 Starclassic Performer kit and a 7-cylinder amp. The space is equipped with air conditioning as well as a computer, which you're also welcome to use.

Because there are only two drums booths, please keep in mind to limit how many people you bring with you.

Soul Factory - Hongik Univ. Station (홍대입구역, line 2)/Shinchon Station (신촌역, line 2)

Soul Factory is a 24-hour practice space located in Seodaemun-gu near Hongik Univ. Station. It's not for whole bands, but for individuals looking to practice alone in fairly small rooms. They say that their rooms can accommodate vocals, guitar, bass, wind and string instruments, and more, but no drums. You can pay by the hour or enter into a monthly contract.

They're located at 서울 서대문구 연희동 421-33 지하1층 (Seoul, Seodaemun-gu, Yeonhui-dong 421-33, B1):

Music Story - Hakdong Station (학동역, line 7)

Music Story is a practice space/recording studio/music academy located about a 2-3 minute walk out of exit 8 of Hakdong Station (학동역, line 7). They charge 15,000 won/hr after 6 pm and 13,000 won/hr before 6 pm.

Rock & Rock - Uijeongbu Station (의정부역, line 1/Gyeongwon line)

Rock & Rock is a practice space located in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do. If you go out of Uijeongbu Station toward City Hall, at the first intersection, turn right and walk about 50 meters. It's on your right. They have 3 practice rooms. Room A is 15,000 won/hr, and Rooms B and C are 350,000 won/month.

Urban Blue (어반블루) - Songnae Station (송내역, line 1)

Urban Blue practice space (어반블루 합즈실) is located out of exit 1 of Songnae Nambu Station (송내역, dark blue line 1) in Bucheon.





Their practice rooms are equipped with:

Groove - Hongdae Station (홍대입구역, line 2)

My Korean indie musician friends have been telling me to try playing at Groove, which is located out of exit 1 of Hongdae Station (홍대입구역, line 2). It's supposed to be spacious, clean and have good instruments, though an American friend of mine felt it was a little sterile. Guess I'll just have to see for myself. There are 4 rooms that range from 12,000-20,000 won/hr, and you can also rent guitars and effects pedals.

RCM Studio is an indie music studio/practice space located near Bangi Station (방이역, line 5) in eastern Seoul. They charge up to 20,000 won/hr.

SMMA (Special Musician Music Academy) Practice Space - Hagye Station (하계역, line 7)

SMMA is located out of exit 5 of Hagye Station (하계역, line 7). The practice rooms are all available from 10 am-11 pm.



You can choose from the following rooms:

A Type:
- "Upright room" - has an upright piano in it
- 8,000 won/hr or 150,000 won/month (at 4 hours a day)

B Type:
- "Lesson room"
- 10,000 won/hr or 200,000 won/month

C Type:
- "Grand piano room"
- 12,000 won/hr or 350,000 won/month

D Type:
- "Hapjusil" which means "Band practice room"
- 12,000 won/hr - monthly price varies

Joni Sound Garage - Hoegi/Wangsimni/Cheongyangni/Oedae Stations (회기/왕십리/청량리/외대)

Joni Sound Garage is located in Dongdaemun-gu near Hoegi/Wangsimni/Cheongyangni/Oedae Stations (회기/왕십리/청량리/외대). They have 3 rooms to choose from, and they charge 6,000 won/hr and 1,000 won to rent extra equipment.

Room 1 has:

Heaven 1 and Heaven 2 - Hapjeong Station (합정역, lines 2 and 6)

Our band, Kohji Isle, usually practiced at Hwa Hyun (which most people just call "Kim's") near Hongdae Station, and another band that practices there told us about Heaven (rooms A and B) and Heaven 2 (rooms C and D), which are located just down the street from each other near Hapjeong Station (합정역, lines 2 and 6), exit 7. All rooms cost 12,000 won/hr.

Freebird Practice Space - Hongik Univ. Station (홍대역, line 2)

On the 5th floor of the building where Club Freebird is in Hongdae, the club also has a practice space. It's clean, has good gear, and is relatively cheap. They also have an espresso machine and a sweet wrap-around balcony where smoking is allowed. There are 4 rooms to choose from: rooms A and B are 15,000 won/hr, and rooms C and D are 12,000 won/hr. Also, you can use just the drum or vocal booth for 10,000 won/hr. If you happen to be a band that performs at Club Freebird, tell them, and you can get more of a discount.

J Music Yamaha Piano Practice Rooms - Jamsil Station (잠실역, lines 2 and 8)

J Music consists of practice rooms equipped with Yamaha grand and upright pianos. It's located on the 4th and 5th floors of the Yamaha piano dealer in Jamsil out of Jamsil Station (잠실역, lines 2 and 8) exit 3. It's 10,000 won/hr to rent a grand piano and 7,000 won/hr to rent an upright.

Piano practice rooms near Konkuk Univ.

I can't seem to find the name of these practice rooms, but they're private practice rooms with upright pianos in them located near Konkuk Univ. Station (건대역, lines 2 and 7). They're available 24 hours a day and have CCTV. The porch and the door of each studio is equipped with a digital door lock (a key is required). The facility is also equipped with wireless internet. If you're interested in monthly payment, it's 240,000 won, but hourly and daily rates can always be worked out.
