Aruze is located near Hapjeong, out of Magnwon Station (망원역, line 6) exit 1. It has only one practice room, but my Korean friend says it's very clean. Plus, there's a lobby/lobby area that's spacious and cozy with a flat screen TV, wifi, and Starbucks coffee. It's 9,000 won/hr.

My Korean indie musician friends have been telling me to try playing at Groove, which is located out of exit 1 of Hongdae Station (홍대입구역, line 2). It's supposed to be spacious, clean and have good instruments, though an American friend of mine felt it was a little sterile. Guess I'll just have to see for myself. My band usually practices at Hwa Hyun (which most people just call "Kim's") near Hongdae Station, and another band that practices there told us about Heaven 1 (rooms A and B) and Heaven 2 (rooms C and D), which are located just down the street from each other near Hapjeong Station (합정역, lines 2 and 6). All rooms cost 12,000 won/hr.

On the 5th floor of the building where Club Freebird is in Hongdae, the club also has a practice space. It's clean, has good gear, and is relatively cheap. They also have an espresso machine and a sweet wrap-around balcony where smoking is allowed. There are 4 rooms to choose from: rooms A and B are 15,000 won/hr, and rooms C and D are 12,000 won/hr. Also, you can use just the drum or vocal booth for 10,000 won/hr. If you happen to be a band that performs at Club Freebird, tell them, and you can get more of a discount.

I can't seem to find the name of these practice rooms, but they're private practice rooms with upright pianos in them located near Konkuk Univ. Station (건대역, lines 2 and 7). They're available 24 hours a day and have CCTV. The porch and the door of each studio is equipped with a digital door lock (a key is required). The facility is also equipped with wireless internet. If you're interested in monthly payment, it's 240,000 won, but hourly and daily rates can always be worked out.

Studio Rock is a practice/recording space that's located near Jamsil out of either exit 1 or 2 of Gangdong-gu Office Station (강동구청역, line 8). There's only one practice room, but it's fairly spacious (could fit 4-5 people comfortably) and costs 10,000 won/hr. There's also an upright piano in a separate room that you can rent. The guys who work here are super duper nice, and help you set everything up. We ended up recording stuff on my laptop here, and the guy helped us find extra cables and was just all around sweet.

Somebody asked me to look up some places where they could take drum lessons near Shinchon Station. The first one I've found is called EZ Drum. If you've been in Shinchon near the subway station, you've probably noticed it. It's on the second floor of a building near On the Border, and you can see the people practicing drums in the window.

They seem to have a lot of teachers for keys, drums, guitar, etc, for various types of music styles, but I'm sure you can just rent the rooms for your private use as well. I couldn't find the information that says how much the rooms cost, etc, but you can either have a Korean friend call for you, or call the BBB (Before Babel Brigade), and they will interpret for you for free: 1588-5644.

Jaengi Studio - Seoul National Univ. of Ed. Station (교대역)

Jaengi (쟁이) Studio is located out of exit 14 of Seoul National University of Education Station (aka 교대역 where lines 3 and 2 meet). When you come out of the exit, make a u-turn and take your first left. You'll see a Buy the Way convenience store a little ways down that alley. Go past it, and on your left you'll see a 시에프 fried chicken restaurant. Turn left at the next alley, and you'll see the sign for 쟁이 Studio halfway down the alley on your right.

The old man who runs the place is super cool, and just sits in the back room and watches a lot of TV. The now-defunct expat band The 40 Days used to practice here, which is how I found out about this place (from my friend who used to play bass with them), so the owner is used to dealing with foreigners.

Music Factory Koon - Cheonho Station (천호역)

Music Factory Koon is located out exit 8 of Cheonho Station (천호역, lines 5 and 8). Just go straight out of the exit, and you'll find it on your left about 2 or 3 blocks down.

My band has been meeting here recently since we just added a drummer, and he lives near this particular subway station. The guys who run the place are nice and laid-back, and the place is clean.

The manager said they're usually open til around 10 or 11, but if you have a dire need to stay later, they're technically available 24 hours. They're also a studio, and they charge:
- 25,000 won/hr or 80,000 won/3 and a half hours of vocal/voice recording
- 40,000 won/hr or 130,000 won/ 3 and a half hours to record your band's music

Bubblegum Sound is popular among expat bands. It's run by a Korean guy named Hyun-ho, who speaks English well and, from what I hear, is quite passionate about what he does.

For rehearsal, you can choose from Room A, which is equipped with:
- Reverse 9 T903 drums
- guitar amps: MG100, Marshall, Valvestate VS65r

or Room C, which has:
- Ashdown MAG300 bass amp
- Korg TR76 keyboard

Also, Bubblegum isn't just a practice space. They also have a recording studio and provide instrument rental.

Loney Studio (로니) - Guro Digital Complex Station

Loney is located near Guro Digital Complex Station (구로디지털단지역, line 2), out of exit 1. It's open from 10 am-11 pm.

You can choose from practice room A, B or C for 10,000 won/hr. If you're looking for a long-term option, you can pay 130,000 won/16 hours, and 8,000 won for each additional hour.

Apple Studio - Hyehwa Station

A guy I do voice work with sometimes told me about Apple Studio (애플스튜디오) in Hyehwa (혜화). He just started playing in a band, and that's where they practice. You can reserve a room any time between 10 am and 12 midnight.

Orange Studio - Hongdae Station

Last night I was walking around Hongdae (which is my new neighborhood, HOORAY!) in that area behind Hongdae Station exit 4, and I saw the sign for Orange Studio. Two of the guys who work there had just locked up and happened to be coming out as I was staring at the sign, and as I started to ask them questions about the place, they kindly offered to open the door back up and show it to my friend and me. The place was nice; it was up there with Brown Sound. There 6 rooms, ranging from small to large, and they range from 10,000 to 16,000 won/hr. For any of you who need a keyboard to practice on, one of the rooms has a Kurzweil SP2X, which is a great 88 key, fully-weighted beauty with great sounds; it's the same one I play on.

Hwa Hyun (화현) - Hongdae Station

Hwa Hyun (화현, also called "Kim's" by most people because it's owned/run by Mr. Kim) is a practice space located in Hongdae. The owner is incredibly nice and awesome, a Korean hippie I'd say. The atmosphere is very laid-back, and the decor is dimly lit and cozy. You can even buy beer from the owner in the cooler he has in the back. There are used to be 3 rooms, but now he's stripped it down to 2. The rooms run 10,000 to 15,000 won, and you can rent extra guitars and basses if you need them.

Red House Studio - Hongdae/Hapjeong Stations

Red House is only a recording studio; it does not have practice spaces. But I added this on here because I'm sure at some point you might be looking for a place to record your songs if you don't feel like doing it on your computer. I haven't checked this studio out yet, but when I do I'll let you know what it was like. The website is really comprehensive, though, so it seems like they know what they're doing. If you're looking for a place to record your songs, it says on their site that if you're crunched for time, they'll work 24 hours straight to get it done for you. At the website you can also listen to songs they've recorded there. This place even gives one-on-one audio engineering lessons for $200/month.

Brown Sound - Sangsu/Hongdae Stations

Brown Sound is a practice space that's located between Sangsu Station and Hongdae Station in Hongdae. It's incredibly clean and has some of the best equipment you'll find at a practice space in Seoul. There are 4 rooms you can choose from: rooms H, O, Z, and N. The bigger rooms, H and O, cost 18,000 won per hour, and the smaller rooms, Z and N, cost 16,000 won per hour.

Here's a breakdown of their equipment:
